Mr. Gary Dunn, Principal

Principal’s Message

Hello Explorer Community,

It is with great pride that I welcome you to Discovery Intermediate School.  As the principal of Discovery, I am very proud of the staff and students who work hard each and every day to ensure that students have a safe and positive learning environment to allow for academic and social emotional growth.  At Discovery, we challenge ourselves to be Prompt, Prepared, Polite, and Productive and realize that if we achieve all four of these pillars, we will be successful.

The 2024/2025 school year was very successful for Discovery.  Together, we earned the highest 8th grade science achievement score in school history, the highest reading proficiency score in school history, and we scored the highest Algebra, BIO, and Civics proficiency scores in years.  This past school year, Discovery also welcomed back a Cheer Team, Battle of the Books Team, and Math Competition Team.  We also celebrated our 2nd school play, Finding Nemo Jr, and had a record number of students participate in the theater production.  Discovery has amazing things taking place!

The 2025/2026 school year is going to be even better!  I am excited to welcome back our students and staff to build off of the many successes we experience in 2024/2025.  I know that working together, we will be able to focus on making the improvements that are needed to ensure that our school continues to show academic growth and success.  Over the past three years, Discovery has outperformed its previous state score to earn the highest points in school history, and I know that this school year will be no different.  

As we move into this school year, I want the community to understand that I value you and appreciate your willingness to help our Explorers achieve their ultimate best.  Please be involved in your child's development both at school and in the community.  Working together, we can continue to help your student grow and experience greatness.  Together, we can ensure that Discovery and the community it serves becomes a beacon of hope and light for Osceola County.

I look forward to serving all of you for the 2025/2026 school year!
