Happy New Year 2017! We look forward to enjoying this year’s changes and additions we made to our faculty. Please join me in welcoming Ms. Becker (8th grade ELA/reading), Dr. Lopez (ASD), Mr. Payne (8th grade math), and Mrs. Hebbler (assistant principal).

I want to take this time to inform you of some changes regarding school choice. Starting in the 2017-2018 school year, Osceola County and Polk County parents/guardians with children in grade 5 (incoming 6th grade) have the opportunity to complete an application for their children to attend Discovery instead of their home-zoned school. Discovery Intermediate offers students the traditional curriculum with a unique emphasis on STEM, which includes electives such as Design and Modeling, Automation and Robotics, Energy and the Environment, Flight and Space, and Medical Detectives. It is also the only middle school in the district to offer JROTC as an elective. If you know someone whose child is attending Lake Marion Creek 5-8 or Palmetto Elementary, and they are interested in having their child attend our school, please encourage them to apply. Choice applications are available at www.osceolaschools.net/choice. The deadline for online Choice applications to be submitted is February 28, 2017.

Thank you for your continued support. Please follow us on Twitter (@discovery_STEM) for the latest information on our school.
