Week of October 12-16, 2026

Picture of Principal, Mr. Gary Dunn

Hello Explorer Family!

Wow!  It is hard to believe that we have made it through the first quarter of the 2026-2027 school year!  I am very proud of the staff and the vast majority of our students for ensuring that every day they come to school, they are focused on academic success.  This quarter also showed us that according to PM1 we are already above where we were last year at this point in regard to reading proficiency and just a tad below where we were in regard to math proficiency.  This last quarter was also filled with various rewards for students without referrals, tardies, and great attendance.  Anything from small treats to dress down days, our students were rewarded for the amazing behavior they have been displaying.

We are now less than 30 days away from the start of our next round of state testing.  It will be very important for you to assist your student in being prepared and productive.  Students need to complete assigned assignments outside of school, bringing their materials each day, and ensuring that their laptop is working and ready to go.   All math teachers, 8th grade science teachers, and the Civics teachers have all started to assign Progress Learning to their students.  It is ESSENTIAL that students are completing these tasks as it will help them improve on standards that they currently have not mastered but have been tested on.  Completing Progress Learning assignments is an EXPECTATION, not a suggestion.  Please hold your students accountable for these tasks just as we will be.

In terms of behavior; we have seen a recent uptick in negative behaviors on campus.  WE NEED YOUR HELP!  Regardless of how you are raising your children at home, there are social norms that must be followed at school.  These norms are norms that we expect everyone to follow in our everyday society.  Students can't be randomly cursing at staff and other students.  Students can't come to school looking to solve their problems with fists or negative words.  Students can't come to school thinking it's ok to disrupt the learning of others.  When students do these things, it reflects negatively on them and negatively on you, the parent.  Please help us be reminding your student that they go to school TO LEARN, NOT TO ENGAGE IN DRAMA.  With that said, thank you to the 90% of our students who didn't receive a referral for the month of September!  Let's aim for 100% of our students not receiving a referral for the rest of October.

It's going to be an amazing kick off to the second quarter, I can feel it!
