Week of October 26-30, 2026

Mr. Dunn's Picture

Hello Explorer Family!

I want to take a moment to express how grateful I am to the vast majority of our students, allowing this week to be extremely positive.Β Β When students follow our expectations of being Prompt, Prepared, Polite, and Productive, it makes for a very positive experience for everyone.Β Β Please continue to talk to your student about the importance of coming to school to learn and the importance of staying focused on their academic journey.Β Β When students enter classrooms prepared for success and engage in the lessons their teachers have prepared, they will surpass their goals.Β Β

Next week, for the first time since I've been at Discovery, we will be participating in Red Ribbon Week.Β Β Attached to this newsletter is a visual highlighting the theme of each day.Β Β Please understand that my hesitation with doing such events is that in the past, students have taken advantage of the themed days and used the days to just dress down.Β Β I'm asking everyone to follow the expectations set for each themed day and if a student is not participating, they are in school uniform.Β Β If at any time I feel that too many kids are taking advantage of the themed days, I will cancel the themes and go back to normal attire.Β Β Red Ribbon week is a week set aside to emphasize the importance of staying drug free.Β Β Ms. Astacio, Discovery's Social Worker will be working with students on various activities throughout the week. Keep in mind that Friday is Picture Day and students must be in school uniform. Picture Day information is included in the newsletter. I look forward to seeing everyone participate.

We are down to 20 school days before our next state testing window.Β Β This year, Discovery's overall goal is to become an "A" school.Β Β I know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that if all of us parents, staff members, administration, students, and community members worked hard and focused on academic success...we will meet our goal.Β Β If students come to school ready to collaborate with their students, listen to the specific feedback being given by their teacher, they will be able to demonstrate learning and being successful.Β Β It takes all of us working together.Β Β How can you help?Β Β I'm glad you asked.Β Β Check your student's grade frequently, communicate with your student's teacher, reinforce positive behavior at home, have discussions about making positive decisions, help your student with homework, and have them bring their laptop charged to school each day.Β Β I look forward to having a very successful 2nd round of state testing!

As always, thank you for trusting me and my team to provide your student with the best possible educational experience.Β Β Please reach out to me directly if you have any questions or concerns.
